چکیده

Background: The purpose of this study was to describe anatomical and visual outcomes after scleral buckling, pars plana vitrectomy, the use silicone oil as a tamponade in management retinal detachment associated with giant tears (GRT). Material methods: A retrospective descriptive chart review conducted for cases an initial presentation rhegmatogenous detachments GRT. Patients underwent surgical by single surgeon had follow-ups at least 12 months. Results: We included 32 eyes patients. All 23G vitrectomy buckling tamponade. Lensectomy performed all phakic eyes. Mean pre-operative best-corrected acuity (BCVA) 20/800, post-operative 20/40 (20/20-LP). mean follow-up 18 Fourteen (45%) grade C proliferative vitreoretinopathy, five (16%) GRT more than 180º. primary reattachment rate 93%, overall final success 100%. Transient intraocular pressure (IOP) elevation found 6 (19%), removal surgery, no patient required antihypertensive management. Conclusion: High rates support GRT-associated lensectomy, par Removal helps avoid complications secondary its emulsification, such glaucoma band keratopathy.

Giant Retinal Tear Retinal Detachment Etiologies, Surgical Outcome and Incidence of Recurrent Retinal Detachment after Silicon Oil Removal

A Giant Retinal Tear (GRT) is defined as a full-thickness retinal break extending circumferentially for 3 clock hours (90°) in the presence of a posteriorly detached vitreous [1]. GRTs are rare; their incidence has not been well established in the literature. The true incidence of GRTs is difficult to assess given their rarity, but one recent study estimates 0.094 per 100,000 of the general pop...

Management of Giant Retinal Tear Detachments

Giant retinal tears (GRTs) are full-thickness circumferential tears of more than 90 degrees of the retina that are associated with vitreous detachment. They are related to ocular trauma, high myopia, aphakia, pseudophakia, genetic mutations involving collagen and young age. GRTs comprise 1.5% of all rhegmatogenous retinal detachments and the average age of incidence is 42 years. GRTs are more c...

OUTPATIENT RETINAL DETACHMENT SURGERY: A PRELIMINARY REPORT

Retinal detachment surgery has been considered an inpatient hospital procedure requiring preoperative and postoperative hospitalization. In this pilot study, outpatient retinal detachment surgery was performed on sixteen patients and the results (100% success rate after an average follow-up of 8.3 months) were comparable or better than reported overall success rates for retinal detachment ...

PURPOSE To describe the clinical features of complicated retinal detachment secondary to acute retinal necrosis (ARN) and to present the long-term results of vitreous surgery in these cases. METHODS A retrospective study was conducted on 16 immunocompetent patients (18 eyes). The average follow-up period was 60 months. RESULTS Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) grade C, with the predomin...

Tamponade in the surgical management of retinal detachment

Despite treatment advances, rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RD) can have poor visual outcomes even with prompt and appropriate therapy. Pars plana vitrectomy is a leading management modality for the treatment of RD. This procedure is generally accompanied by the use of internal tamponade. Various gases and silicone oils may yield beneficial outcomes. Heavy silicone oils have been approved in...
